My mom loves her coffee more today than when I was a kid. I wanted to be like her but when I tasted her coffee with sugar in it, I had to create my own special time with strong coffee with added cream only. Coffee was part of our life on the farm with the aroma part of my memory along with yeast rolls.

My mom was always up early to make breakfast for my dad before he went to work. I remember staying tucked in my bed listening to the quiet conversation and smelling the wonderful coffee.

My kids are grown now; I'm a grandmother of four.

My kids were little stairsteps. I had one for each season. I started with fall, 16 months later my daughter was born in the winter, then 15 months later my middle son was born in the spring. I waited three years & had my youngest son in the summer. I always felt like a mother hen with my brood of chicks, especially with the three oldest.

Coffee is my special treat everyday. My mom and dad used to drink it when I was growing up and I thought it was disgusting. Now I cannot start the day without it.

I have a funny memory about COFFEE!! (hmmm...could this be why I'm addicted to coffee so bad?) One day for Mother's Day when I was about 10 or 11, I decided to make my mom breakfast in bed...I even tried to make her a cup of instant coffee to go with it. (barf..instant coffee). To me, if you heated water in the microwave for 20 seconds that was sufficient. So I heated up some water for 20 seconds, and then stirred in the coffee crystals!! She actually took a drink.....and then spit it all over her bedspread!!

Coffee evokes more Grandmother than Mother memories - I have a vivid and fond memory of my Grandmother letting me drink "coffee" - I put quotes around coffee because it was more hot milk with a few drops of coffee lol - against my Mother's wishes when I was a child. I miss my Grandmother.

I remember waking up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing and my mom or dad making breakfast for us kids. My parents having both been born in Europe would allow us to have a "special" cup of coffee which consisted of half milk and sugar or honey and just enough coffee to make a light colored heart warming drink that I relished. Even today when I smell fresh ground coffee it brings back those memories of early mornings, family and delicious coffee.
